Chased and gilded bronze wall-mounted cartel, known as a car - Lot 49
Chased and gilded bronze wall-mounted cartel, known as a cartel au ruban à sonnerie à la demande (worn), topped by a female mask surmounted by an antique-style fire pot adorned with canals and rosettes, in whose handles passes a long ribbon. The sides are decorated with palms, and the lower part features a laurel-leaf garland, with a seeded lamp base and a frieze of fleurons. The circular white enameled dial (chips) with Arabic and Roman numerals in black is signed De La Gardette A Paris. Louis XVI period. Dial and movement mounted. 56 x 27 x 10 cm Note: the original drawing of a comparable cartel appears in Osmond's Livre des Desseins under number 36, INHA library, known as the cartel au ruban grand modèle. Created by Robert Osmond around 1770, this model was a great success with Parisian connoisseurs. Two examples were included in royal collections, the first delivered in 1767 for the apartments of Madame Victoire in Versailles, and the second, a few years later, for King Louis XVI, still Dauphin. Robert Osmond (1711-1789) was awarded the title of Master Bronzemaker in Paris in 1746. A champion of neoclassicism, he also produced numerous rocaille clock cases. Bibliography : - H.
