A collection of texts from councils held since the origins of Christianity, published at the time of the Trent Council in reaction to the Protestant Reformation. It was compiled by Pierre Crabbe, a Franciscan monk born in Malines in 1470 or 1471, who died on August 30, 1554 at the age of 83. After researching nearly five hundred libraries, he published the first two volumes in Cologne in 1538; augmented by a third volume in 1551, for which he was assisted by Graës; a fourth volume appeared in Cologne in 1567. "His edition of the councils is the first to merit the name of edition: the documents are arranged chronologically; they are preceded by a notice of the popes who promulgated them, accompanied by variants and followed by historical and critical notes". (Dictionnaire de Théologie chrétienne col. 2010 - SALMON, Traité de l'étude des conciles, Paris, 1726, p. 291).
