Pierre Sterlé (1905–1978) was orphaned at a very young age following his father’s death during World War I. His uncle, a jeweler on Rue de Castiglione in Paris, taught him the trade. A jewelry artist with a unique style, his pieces—featuring fringed, corded, twisted, or cascading effects—drew inspiration from the plant and floral worlds, as well as from birds, fish, and even tsubas. He opened his own workshop in 1934; his clientele included Colette, Sydney Bechet, Lise Delamare, and others. He also worked for major Parisian houses such as Boucheron and Chaumet. In 1976, following financial difficulties, Chaumet purchased his inventory and appointed him as a “technical consultant” within the company.
