DELARBRE (Antoine). Zoological Essay, or Natural History of - Lot 59
DELARBRE (Antoine). Zoological Essay, or Natural History of Wild Quadrupeds and Native Birds; of Those That Are Merely Migratory or Appear Rarely, and of Fish and Amphibians, Observed in the Former Province of Auvergne. Clermont-Ferrand, Beauvert, Deschamps, 1797; 8vo. 1 blank folio—346 pp. (erroneously numbered 348). Fawn half-basane, spine with raised bands decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, marbled edges. (19th-century binding).—A fine copy. However, 4 ff. are fragile due to the thinness of the paper. A very rare first edition. Each animal is described in a one- to two-page entry, with ornithology taking up the most space. Of note: the wolf—“during harsh winters, they have been seen coming down from the mountains and approaching the gates of Clermont.”
