TIXIER DE RAVISY (Jean, in Latin RAVISIUS TEXTOR). A selection of most delightful dialogues, particularly useful for studious youth. Also, a number of his epigrams, which are both highly erudite and exceedingly witty. And letters in a non-common edition. All recently and carefully reviewed and corrected. Rotterdam, published by Arnold Leers, 1651, in-12, 8 unnumbered leaves—405 pp.—3 unnumbered leaves—138 pp.—1 leaf—title page—engraved frontispiece. Ivory vellum with flaps, calligraphic title on the spine. (Contemporary binding).—A fine copy. A collection of dialogues, letters, and epigrams—the latter (first published in Paris in 1530) on the birth of Christ, the brevity of life, the Passion, peace... (Oberlé, Néo-latins, 241). The author was born in Ravisy, near Saint-Saulge, around 1470. He was a student of Jean Bolacre, a professor of theology at the Collège de Navarre and himself a native of Nevers. Tixier’s lectures at the University of Paris were renowned and were adopted by the colleges of France. He became rector in 1500. (Guéneau, p. 159).
