Fauconnet de Vildé, councilor of the City of Paris: "Argent, a sheaf of sinople, a chief azure charged with three stars argent" (Olivier 1654). Caps rubbed, spines split, corners bumped, frontispieces with narrow margins. First edition. One of the finest anthologies of the 18th century. The great philologist Jacob Le Duchat (born in Metz in 1658) annotated editions by d’Aubigné, de L’Estoille, Rabelais, H. Estienne, Villon, etc. He also contributed a number of entries to Bayle’s dictionary. He was in the habit of making extensive annotations in the books of his library. It was from these notes that Formey drew the texts for his *Ducatiana*. Haag VI, 492—Aude, *Bibl. des Ana.* p. 36, which notes that this collection contains remarks on other “ana” of the period: *Menagiana*, *Thuana*, *Perroniana*, *Chevraeana*, etc. - [BOSCHERON]. [Ana]. Carpentariana, or Remarks on History, Morality, Criticism, Scholarship, and Witty Sayings. Paris, Le Breton, 1724, in-12, 4 unnumbered leaves—491 pp.—1 unnumbered leaf. Bound in brown calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, title label, red edges. (Contemporary binding). - Very minor defects in the binding, slightly yellowed paper, old ink note covering the entire endpaper: "attributed to Camusat by d’Artigny, in his literary memoirs...," followed by disputed attributions further on; a few old ink annotations in the text; the errata at the end has been struck through. First edition. Collated excerpts from the works of Academician François Charpentier (1620–1702), a prolific orator vilified by Boileau and Racine. The publisher added a few fragments by Bignon and Varilhas. Boscheron, whose life is unknown, published a collection of verses and “Serious and Comic Reveries.” (Aude, Bibliographie des Ana, p. 25—Barbier I, col. 503—Quérard I, p. 424—Cioranescu I, 12978).
