FERRAND (Antoine-François-Claude). *The Spirit of History, o - Lot 234
FERRAND (Antoine-François-Claude). *The Spirit of History, or Political and Moral Letters from a Father to His Son: On the Method of Studying History in General, and the History of France in Particular*... Fifth edition... Paris, Déterville, 1809, 4 volumes in-8, 4ff. unnumbered—XII pp.—480 pp.—2ff.—528 pp.—2ff.—547 pp. - 2ff.-512pp. Romantic caramel-colored half-calf bindings, ribbed spines with romantic friezes and fleurons, title labels, marbled edges. - Weak hinges, some foxing. Ferrand wrote this work while in exile, intended for his only son, who would later die in Regensburg. A veritable plea in favor of power over liberty, it was warmly received by the counter-revolution. A zealous supporter of Louis XVIII, Count Ferrand played a decisive role in the drafting of the Charter of 1814. Bertier de Sauvigny ranks Count Ferrand among the most widely read political authors of his time.
